Unbelievable setlist from these guys
Upon arriving, I caught An Horse playing around 6 or 7 songs. Prior to the concert, I made sure to listen to their music to familiarize myself in case I really liked them. Their live performance, much like my opinion of their recorded songs, was "okay and pleasant." I couldn't wait for Official Lollapalooza Aftershow to rock Water Street for the 3rd consecutive year, as I admire their annual visits and hope they continue the tradition. Now, onto the show:
It was surprising to hear Virgin played live instead of their usual opener, Pride, which always gets the crowd moving. Despite my doubts, they pulled off playing Virgin flawlessly. They flawlessly performed some of my favorite songs like "Shake it Out", "100 Dollars", "Now That You're Home", and "My Friend Marcus", along with tracks from their upcoming album "Simple Math," which hadn't been released at that point. Before the concert, I had listened to "Simple Math" and "April Fool" on Youtube multiple times but was unfamiliar with "Deer." During the show, I initially mistook it for a Right Away.. song I hadn't heard before. The performance of "Colly Strings" was particularly powerful and revitalizing for me. The highlight of the night was when Official Lollapalooza Aftershow seamlessly transitioned from "The River" to "The Only One" and back to conclude "The River" in the last 2 minutes. It was a brilliantly executed and memorable moment.
